As part of its energy policy, which is closely linked to the Environmental Action Plan and Climate Pact, the City of Luxembourg commissioned Geoplex to create a solar cadastre that has been accessible in the urban information system since 2015. In 2021, Geoplex also set up a green roof cadastre for the capital. Against the background of Luxembourg’s bilingualism, both systems are available in German and French.

The central data basis of the cadastre is a very detailed 3D city model at Level of Detail 3 (LOD3, CityGML), which is continuously maintained by the city administration and, in its 2024 state, is also being used for the currently commissioned update. A few years ago, the city decided to present the solar cadastre online in three-dimensional form. This form of presentation opens up many new possibilities, for example for calculating shading situations live in the web viewer.
