The East Westphalia-Lippe regional group of the Working Group for Historic Town and City Centers in North Rhine-Westphalia is relying on PlexMap for the software implementation of the “3D, smart, and historic” project. As part of the funded project, the historic town centers of Brakel, Detmold, Lemgo, Minden, Rheda-Wiedenbrück, and Rietberg will first be captured as high-quality 3D city models. Geoplex will then develop an application-oriented application for each municipality and introduce it together with local stakeholders on site.

The core idea is to use digital technology to map urban development and city marketing, bring historic city centers and town centers to life virtually, involve the urban community, and promote intermunicipal cooperation. To flesh out the project idea, an inter-municipal working group was formed, comprising representatives of the member cities, the geoinformation services of the OWL districts, and scientific partners. Three central guiding principles have emerged to flesh out the project idea. 3D city models are:

  • a learning, sustainable instrument for integrated, inventory-oriented urban development in historic centers,
  • an instrument for promoting professional exchange at the regional group and working group level, at the district and regional level, and
  • an offering for external platforms to connect data.

Six historic city and town centers in OWL are being modeled in high-performance 3D representations, and the foundations for technical applications in urban planning, construction, and city marketing are being tested. Based on a modular principle, these applications will be made available to other municipalities as optimized and transferable application modules. In addition, they will be effective at the working group level in organizing and promoting the well-known and established exchange between member cities. The 3D models are intended to serve as a regional platform for displaying a wide range of data and information collected regionally in the areas of culture and tourism.

The project will run in the innovation phase until the end of 2026. We look forward to working together during this time and beyond!
